New Season

WWAFC Vs Deans 1/2/09
We were set for a tough game, Deans, the league leaders with only one loss so far this season. But on this home leg, our pitch suited us better and we used the space on the wings to take the ball around Deans. A pass in from Ben, and Jeroham slotted it home to take the lead. Solid performances from Sam, Jordan and Paddy denied Deans the equaliser and Greg was quick out of goal to clear the ball. A cross in from Danny left the keeper grappling and Ben just got a touch to knock it past him. Good runs for Ashley and Jeroham gave us a few nice chances, Deans battling to recover the game, with a goal in the last ten minutes. Great result, great all round performance.
Final Score: 2-1.
MOM: Ashley
Broadheath Vs WAFC 25/1/09
Taking control early in the game, Anthony and Ben dominated the midfield giving us some early opportunities on the attack. Broadheath were quick to defend and their goalie denied us a couple. A perfectly placed blast from Liam, 25 yards out, gave us the lead and into the second half a goal from Ashley confirmed our lead. Broadheath were never a serious threat; Dominic and our defence held their own, with a solid, composed performance.
Final Score: 0-2.

NJ Wythenshawe Vs WAFC 18/1/09
A determined all-round effort from the off, a shot from NJ giving them the lead, but we battled back and won a penalty, Nathan calmly taking it to equalise before half time. The defence were on form; Connor, Sam, Jordan and Paddy intercepting anything that came through, and we pushed out wide taking the ball around the NJ defenders. Eventually a ball in from Jeroham gave Danny a shot on goal to take us ahead for the game.
Final Score: 1-2.

WAFC Vs Unicorn Warriors 11/1/09
Much better play and finally some goals, a hat trick from both Anthony and Nathan giving us a massive lead. A strong performance, especially from the defence, and a much needed morale boost.
Final Score: 6-0.
MOM: Jordan
Lymm Vs WAFC 21/12/08
A poor performance; not enough passing and not enough teamwork. We failed to take advantage of our opportunities and eventually Lymm slipped through with a goal. We must move on from this and get back to winning games.
Final Score: 1-0.

Altrincham Jrs Vs WAFC 30/11/08
We were slow to get into this game, 4-1 down into the second half. However we seemed to find ourselves and with 20 minutes to go we started to come back, goals from Anthony and Danny evening the scoreline. A final goal in the dying minutes gave us a draw – if only we’d started as well as we finished we may have had another 3 points.
Final Score: 4-4.

Unicorn Metros Vs WAFC 16/11/08
A confident start, we were determined to get our second win. We pushed up and gave Unicorn something to think about with early efforts from Ben, Nathan, Ashley and Danny saved by their goalie or going wide. A free kick from Nathan was knocked away and gave them a break, but this was quickly picked up by Connor and sent back out to Jeroham with a great run into the box. We had shot after shot on goal, but the finish wasn’t there and their goalie was on form. Every time the ball came back, our defence were ready to intercept, some good clearances from Paddy and Jordan. As half time loomed we had a great chance to gain the lead, a ball up from Anthony gave Greg a run forward, one on one with the keeper, the shot just going wide.
Unicorn seemed to pull it together as we started the second half, a huge throw from Liam gave Anthony an opportunity but the goalie was quick to react. As the ball came back, we switched off for a second, and Unicorn were quick to punish us with a goal – their only chance in the game. Bursting back to life, we composed ourselves and minutes later a corner gave Liam the equaliser. After so many chances we were determined not to let it slip and with 10 minutes to go a great ball in from Anthony gave Nathan the ball he needed to take the lead. We kept up the pressure to the end, some great balls in, and a strong finish for Connor and Jordan at the back.
Final Score 1-2. A well deserved win, strong performances from Liam, Jordan, Connor and Anthony
MOM: Ben

Deans Tigers Vs WAFC 2/11/08
Two losses on the trot and the pressure was on. What started as a strong performance quickly disintegrated and although Deans never seemed to overpower us we just couldn’t get into the game. A goal from Paddy put us ahead, but it wasn’t long before they equalised. As we neared full time they took the lead, and moments later we conceded a penalty, saved by Dominic and keeping us in the game. We battled for an equaliser in the dying minutes but it was too little too late.
A poor performance – we should be better than that.
Final Score 2-1

WAFC Vs NJ Wythenshawe 19/10/08
A much stronger performance; plenty of pressure on NJ and shot after shot on goal. Their keeper was outstanding and kept them in the game. One slip and NJ were able to take the one chance they needed. An undeserved result - but goals win games and we just couldn’t finish.
Final Score 0-1
MOM: Liam
Irlam Rangers Vs WAFC 28/9/08
A poor effort and a grim start to the season. We need to do much better in this tough division.
Final score 7-1
